Symbolism in Rings: A Unique Pair of Wedding Bands

Buying or creating jewellery always tell a personal story meaning. Recently, I designed a special pair of wedding rings. These rings, made for a couple married on 8 May 2011, carried deep symbolism.

Why the Number 8 Matters

I & M chose the number 8 for its powerful meaning. It symbolises unity, eternity, and infinite love. The figure 8, with its unbroken shape, reflects an endless bond. They wanted this number to play a big role on their wedding day.

Old Jewellery Transformed

Additionally, these rings had even more personal value. The couple brought old jewellery from their own collections. Transforming their jewellery by melting these pieces together in my workshop. Hence creating a single, unified material full of shared memories.

Crafting the Symbolic Rings

Basically starting off, by rolling the melted silver into a strip of metal. Then, I formed the first ring and soldered it into shape. From the same silver, I created the second ring. Together, the two rings formed the figure 8. This process reflected their intertwined lives.

Exchanging Halves to Create Wholeness

Symbolism in rings

On their wedding day, the couple completed the symbolic journey. I had sawn the rings in half to create four pieces. They exchanged one half of each other’s ring, a gesture of love and unity. After the exchange, they joined the halves, completing the unity.

A Lasting Symbol of Love

Eight is the number of unity.
8 is a knot that ties.
Eight is a loop that mirrors itself.
8 is two halves creating a whole.

These rings now hold the couple’s story. They represent love, unity, and the beauty of a bond that lasts forever. Contact me today to create your own meaningful jewellery that tells your unique story.
