Craftsperson 2012: A Day of Creativity and Connections
Sunday turned out to be an unforgettable day, filled with creativity, enthusiasm, and connection. As part of the Craftsperson 2012 event, I opened my workshop to visitors eager to experience the world of artisan craftsmanship. Despite the freezing temperatures and icy roads, people travelled from all over the country to support and celebrate the skills of makers like me.
My Workshop Came to Life
I welcomed a steady stream of visitors into my workshop, and their excitement brought a wonderful energy to the day. Sharing my jewellery-making process with so many curious and enthusiastic people was an absolute joy. One of the most memorable moments was when a fellow jeweller stopped by to see me work. Having a colleague take the time to visit felt like a genuine compliment to my craft.
Throughout the day, I provided live demonstrations to show visitors how I create my jewellery. I kept these demonstrations simple, knowing that concentrating on more intricate techniques with 10 to 15 people gathered around would have been a challenge. Even so, I loved answering questions and sharing insights into my work. Events like Craftsperson 2012 remind me how rewarding it is to connect with others who appreciate handmade artistry.

Celebrating Artisan Success
My friend and fellow craftsperson, shoemaker Natalie van Lijsebettens, also had an incredible day. Her workshop was full of visitors, and she even caught the attention of ATV, the local Antwerp TV station. Natalie’s interview aired on the evening news, shining a spotlight on her work and the vibrant community of artisans that make Craftsperson 2012 such a success.
Looking Ahead
I hope the visitors who came to my workshop felt inspired by the beauty of handmade jewellery. Watching people try on my creations was a highlight, and I look forward to welcoming them back for commissions.
