Contemporary Bespoke Jewellery
Saskia Shutt is a Belgian-British jewellery designer, who creates stunning, bespoke jewellery in silver, gold and platinum, for women and men.
Saskia’s creations, all handmade in her Brussels workshop, feature organic, sculptural forms, and often incorporate natural gemstones.
Her work exudes strength with flowing lines, and bold shapes. Using precious stones and textured surfaces, Saskia’s contemporary jewellery offers a striking and sophisticated statement.
Education
After extensive studies in Belgium (Sint Lukas School of Art), the UK (Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art), New Zealand (Manukau Institute of technichnology) and South Africa (Stellenbosch University), Saskia began her jewellery business in London. Later, she exhibited widely in the UK, becoming a member of The Sussex Guild, and qualified as a teacher in 2009 from East Sussex College.
Career
I established my business in London, in 1999. Since then, it has grown and shifted in many ways. Some things, however, remain constant. I still delight in sitting at my workbench, surrounded by my many tools, my hands blackened by working precious metals. Here, in this intimate environment, I am like an alchemist, fusing materials with emotions.
In 2009, I moved to the Dansaert District, Brussels, the heart of the blossoming art, fashion, and design scene. Building on my international experience, I actively engage with and embrace the rise of contemporary Belgian craftsmanship and design.
My career as a jeweller-goldsmith has included teaching the next generation of Belgian jewellers, as well as exhibiting regularly in Belgium, the UK, and The Netherlands. I was nominated for the International Arts, Crafts & Design Awards, in 2014 and 2015. My work has also been featured in fashion shoots and on television.
With my international background and education, I can discuss commissions and ideas in Dutch, English, French, and German.
