Commemoration jewellery creates a deeply personal and meaningful way to honour and cherish the memories of loved ones. These pieces let you carry their essence with you and celebrate the unique stories they leave behind. In this post, I share heartfelt stories behind creating commemoration jewellery and how these pieces embody love, memory, and connection.

Renewing Love and Remembering a Daughter

A couple approached me as they prepared to renew their wedding vows for their 25th anniversary. They wanted their rings to symbolise their enduring love and honour the memory of their late daughter.

I designed her ring as a cluster ring. The woman carefully choosing each gemstone for its significance. At the centre, a moonstone, her own birthstone. Surrounding it, sapphires, her late daughter’s birthstone. Choosing white sapphires symbolising purity and innocence. On the outside, green garnets—her husband’s birthstone—representing his protective role in the family.

For his wedding ring, I created a hollow design to hold a small portion of their daughter’s ashes. This design allowed him to keep her close, a constant reminder of her presence in their lives. These rings served as both commemoration and mourning jewellery, carrying the weight of loss while celebrating love and family.

A White Gold Pendant with Hidden Meaning

Another customer requested a white gold pendant that held deep personal meaning. I created a hollow square tube, textured on the front to add character and engraved on the back with a private message. Inside, the pendant contained the ashes of their loved one.

This understated yet significant piece quietly celebrates a life lived and allows them to keep their loved one’s essence close to their heart.

Transforming Generations of Gold

One fascinating project involved gold teeth, dating from the late 1800’s to the 1990’s—a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Their widow and three daughters wanted to transform these heirlooms into wearable commemoration jewellery.

After discussing the designs for each piece, I melted down the gold teeth and created unique jewellery for the family. Each piece reflected their individual personalities while preserving the connection to their shared history. These creations became cherished treasures, linking the family to their past.
