Peridot, born from fire, forms in volcanic rock and meteorites. Ancient miners first sourced it exclusively in Egypt. Later, miners discovered peridot in the mountainous regions of Pakistan, where they could only extract it during summer. This link to harsh summer mining conditions makes peridot a perfect birthstone for August.

The name “peridot” has a mysterious origin. It could stem from the Greek word peridona, meaning “to give richness,” or the Arabic word faridat, meaning gem.

Ik ben geëerd dat Bianca Debaets mij koos voor het december blog “Brusselaar in de kijker”

Brusselaar in de kijker: Saskia Shutt, goudsmid

Een beetje zinneke. Geboren in Etterbeek, dochter van een Engelse vader en Brusselse moeder. Ik ben op mijn 19 naar het buitenland getrokken om mijn studies verder te zetten. Na mijn studies heb ik in Engeland een carrière kunnen uitbouwen. Ik ben zelfstandige goudsmid. Gedurende 11 jaar heb ik in London, Eastbourne en Tunbridge Wells mijn onderneming uitgebouwd. De artisanale- en kunstambachten worden hier enorm gesteund. Toch was het, na 17 jaar weg uit België, tijd om terug te keren naar België. Ik wou opnieuw deel uitmaken van de diversiteit die we in Brussel terug vinden.

Brussel als Creatieve Modehub: Mijn Juwelenatelier in het Dansaert Centrum

In mijn branche is Brussel op artistiek vlak de laatste 10 jaar echt opgebloeid. Er is in de stad een hele dynamiek ontwikkeld rond alles wat met ‘fashion’ te maken heeft. Brussel bruist van de creativiteit in de mode en design wereld. Daar wou ik ook deel van uitmaken! Daarom heb ik mijn juwelen-atelier opnieuw opgestart in het Dansaert Centrum voor creatieve beroepen. Hier vervaardig ik met de hand juwelen in zilver, goud en platina. Op maat ontworpen en gemaakt in samenspraak met de klant. Dit gaat van het kiezen uit bestaande collectiestukken tot het laten transformeren van oude juwelen tot een volledig nieuw stuk. Mijn atelier is dan ook enkel open op afspraak. Voor meer info kan je contact opnemen met Saskia.

Naast deze persoonlijke aanpak op maat van de klant, ontwerp ik ook mijn eigen collectie. Een aantal keer per jaar presenteer ik deze in een solo tentoonstelling. Of ik werk specifiek rond een thema. Bijvoorbeeld als ik deelneem aan de mode evenementen Modo Brussels. In november 2013 heb ik deelgenomen aan een speciale editie “Shopping de Noël”. Dit is een event van Charitic Angels. Brussel: Een Smeltkroes van Creativiteit en Cultuur

Brussel is voor mij niet alleen de stad van de creativiteit in mode en design. Een belangrijk deel van de “great atmosphere” is ook de mogelijkheden die je in Brussel hebt op sociaal vlak. Het is geweldig dat je in Brussel kunt rondlopen en van het ene op het andere moment misschien 3 tot 4 verschillende talen horen. Het is een heerlijke smeltkroes van mensen en diversiteit in cultuur, taal, architectuur, eten. Terrasjes doen maakt ook deel uit van het leven in Brussel. Het is altijd heel gezellig. Je weet nooit wie er aan het tafeltje naast jou zit, waarmee je toevallige interessante conversaties kan hebben.

Brussel is een werelddorp!

Er is ook altijd wel wat te beleven in Brussel. In de zomer heb je de festivals, markten, picknicks en tal van andere “outdoor” activiteiten. In de winter heb je concerten, theatervoorstellingen, tentoonstellingen, etc. En op de koop toe zijn er een heel deel evenementen gewoon gratis!

De beslissing om van Engeland terug te keren naar Brussel was zeker de juiste voor mij. Ik heb er in elk geval geen spijt van en voel me na vier jaar weer helemaal terug thuis.

My workshop is located in the heart of Brussels’ vibrant and creative Dansaert Neighbourhood. One of the city’s most dynamic areas for design and artistry.
